Why are people so opposed to AOC running for office in 2028?

The GOP and MAGA tells them to be.

She’s also a Democratic Socialist, both of which are bad, bad words to them.

Add in she’s young, pretty, a POC and outspoken?

She is literally everything right wing cis-het traditional WASPs despise.

    2. Because Americans as a whole aren’t willing to vote for a women, as we’ve already experienced with Kamala. It’s very unfortunate and dumb.

She’s too far left for most people.

Which is sad because she really isn’t all that left-wing at all, really

    4. I go back and forth with this. On the one hand, people seem to have said “no” to women in general. On the other hand, Hillary and Kamala were both viewed as tools of the establishment and, personally, I think that was the bigger factor. AOC would not be viewed as a Washington insider, but would be attacked as a “crazy leftist.”
      So I feel she may have a chance if anti-establishment > anti-woman

I love AOC. I think she’s an amazing Representative, and would do very well in the Senate. But this country has already demonstrated that it isn’t ready for a female president. Twice. There is absolutely no way she would win a presidential bid, and we’d just be stuck with another MAGA presidency. As much as I hate to say this, if the Democrats want any chance of winning in 28, they have no real option but to nominate a straight, cisgender white dude. This country as a whole is *not* as progressive as I used to believe.

Those of us that are not anglos are not good enough. They look at me and they think I’m English but there is not a drop of Anglo Saxon blood in me. By high school I learned that I was not one of them and that was fifty years ago

    7. My maga family said she is getting rich from taking bribes as a politician. So that’s what they think, Bernie also

    8. Chaoticgood790 on

She’s needed where she is. And we aren’t going to elect her bc our country is racist and sexist

    9. sevsnapeysuspended on

her becoming president throws away any future she has in congress. she’s an effective member and clear communicator and losing her so she can inevitably get bogged down trying to get her agenda through the gears she’s currently involved with seems like a massive waste

i don’t think she’s the best candidate for the times we find ourselves in. two women have lost to the worst candidate in history. it isn’t their fault, i don’t blame them for being women and it’s insane it happened but this is the fact. we need someone who the country will actually get behind and it doesn’t seem like another female POC is a winning strategy no matter how well she’s liked online

senator or higher ranking house member ocasio-cortez running in 10-15 years is a better place to jump from than house member

    10. She’s amazing and would be my pick in a heartbeat, but she’s a non-white woman and apparently a lot of people can’t vote for that.

    11. More_Lavishness8127 on

I would vote for her in a heartbeat, but too many people in this country hate brown people, and too many people think women shouldn’t be in leadership positions and so I’m not confident she would win. Our country cannot afford another republican then. There honestly might not be anything left by 2028.

    12. She has yet to have to run for a state wide election where the machine will attempt to distort her stances, race, and sex to weaponize them against her to turn off voters or motivate them to vote against her.

I think a Senate run in 2028 makes sense but a presidential run doesn’t

    13. because we’ve seen how America votes for competent women.

also linking your politics to the word socialist is political suicide anywhere that’s not a coastal city.

edit: to be clear I am a supporter and I would 100% vote for her but I have no illusions about the country I live in.

    14. She’s a she. And not as white as the driven snow, and isn’t bankrolled by whoever decides who gets to run this term.

    15. golfwinnersplz on

AOC is too smart for Americans. It’s really that simple. Our country has been diluted with Christian indoctrination to the point of no return.

    16. Shes a woman and not white. Not sure if you’ve paid attention to the majority of American, but that seems to be a large issue for them

    17. Because American voters will never vote in a woman no matter who she is. Democrats have run women twice and lost twice. These aren’t normal times and we have to go with what works to save ourselves.

    18. ExcessiveSize9 on

Wypipo America is not ready to elect a female POTUS. Especially one of color otherwise VP Harris would have been elected.
      I Said What I Said.

    19. toooooold4this on

      Three reasons.

One, she has so much propaganda about her on the right, she’ll unify them as a common enemy.

Two, we cannot run another woman. It’s too risky. Hillary and Kamala are far more experienced and lost. She would be awesome as VP on a ticket with a mainstream white guy. We need to get people used to seeing women in positions of power.

Three, we need her to replace Chuck Schumer in the Senate. He needs to go and we can use her voice in the Senate.

    20. I may not agree with everything AOC says but at least she has ideas and that’s enough for me. That and she irritates old white guys.

    21. Jesus fucking Christ, how many times do people need to figure out America won’t elect a woman?

Doesn’t matter anyway, there won’t be elections in 2028.

    22. I want to preface this with I like AOC and a lot of her policies. With that said…

Because she’s fucking unelectable just like Newsome is outside of California. People on the coasts need to get it through their heads that the rest of the country is not going to rally behind anyone from NY or CA. Or get used to constantly losing to the idiots in the GOP.

    23. She won’t be able to win on a national level right now. And she’s better able to make a difference where she’s currently at.

    24. _Sausage_fingers on

Because she will lose. She has admitted socialist Leanings, and she’s a young woman of colour, and America is a dog shit country where those things will preclude her from winning while running against an actual fascist.

    25. Forever_learning713 on

They’re opposed because she would be an excellent candidate, and the microchipped monkeys that propagate right wing support will flood the internet with suspicions about her birth, gender, sexuality, and pretty much anything but what she stands for. The mindless consumers (mostly older, but there’s plenty of young idiots will eat it up) will be manipulated by Russian bots and instead of a qualified, human, they’ll either vote in some homunculus, or just rig the whole thing.

    26. Because people who would vote for a woman severely underestimate the sexism that exists in our country. Plus she’s *gasp* not “white”. Those two factors can’t be overcome in this sexist, racist country. It sucks.

    27. I’m progressive. But AOC is not sincere. Nancy Pelosi in the 1990s had the same exact script as AOC today. Nancy was super progressive back then. However, she always voted with her associates on even topics she would speak out against.

AOC supported Israel through and through. Even as recently. She’s ’controlled opposition’ in her own party. She says the lines progressive voters want to hear. But she’s part of that “establishment” if you will. She’s a politician. That’s it.

There is one other issue as well that’s dumb. But unfortunately, America is still horribly sexist… I know some women on the right that don’t even think women should vote for stupid reasons.

    28. Me personally? I get Obama vibes. Says all the right stuff, does some of the decent stuff, and doesn’t actually change any of the bad stuff.

I would love for her to prove me wrong.
