In October 2020, German surfer Sebastian Steudtner made history by surfing on the biggest ever wave (86 ft; 26.21m – equivalent to a Tsunami) with the whole world watching him. Location Nazaré, Portugal. Breathtaking!

An impressive wave, no doubt, and good job on the surfer, but unless that wave washed hundreds of meters inland, erasing a small resort in the process, it was NOT equivalent to a tsunami.
Honestly, what does that even mean? What’s the actual metric here?

Not a surfer here but these waves would weight hundreds of kilos and would crush you if you get caught in it, right? Or would you get out unharmed and just tumbled a bit?
