I saw this in the air. It was lowering something down into a yard. It is a delivery drone.

    1. We’re going to see a lot more of this over the next few years to where it will become commonplace. Not sure how I feel about that

There’s a string attached. I guess they switch from “forward-prop plane” mode (100% not the right phrase but ykwim) to quad-copter once close to destination

So it’s probably just switched to delivery quad copter mode after releasing the ordinance

    3. I remember they wanted to start doing this in Seattle around 2015 but it never came to be. Now it looks like the Zipline drones are the 2nd attempt

    4. I’d like to do it one day, just for shits and giggles for the kids. But not for me. Maybe I’m a boomer lol. I don’t do food delivery or anything either.

    5. Welcome to Walmart. Our local neighborhood Walmart flys about 100 drone deliveries a day.

    6. I think the company is called Zipline – I’ve been following their activities for a while. They do some cool stuff.

I can see this being useful for delivering vital supplies to hospitals or something like that.

      Other stuff. Eh.

People worried about the noise seems legitimate, until you consider all the lawnmowers and leaf blowers out there. Those wreck your saturday for hours at a time while a drone is and out in a couple of minutes max. You can’t hear them at altitude. You can hear them pretty good if you go hang out at a Wal Mart parking lot in DFW, but thats on you.

    9. I have seen a lot of videos of delivery drones in Ukraine. They were just delivering something much different.

    10. Can you imagine what this would do to guys coming back from war with ptsd? Now that drones are all over the battlefield, I was concerned anything that sounds like a drone could trigger an episode. I guess weedwhackers will be small potatoes when you consider this will be big.
