Hey I live in Texas where I see people get fired all the time for cursing. If people want to be careful I can understand, I’m not 9 years old I can get over it if somebody chooses to forego a curse word. Maybe watch something with more entertainment value than TikTok videos, like paint drying.

The thing is, also, it doesn’t stop the video from posting, so there isnt any interruption in schedule…the people watching a video from a creator who has a regular posting schedule are primarily regular audience members, so the language isn’t going to be any sort of big shock…usually ALSO, creators these days make all sorts of warnings before they talk about any really sensitive topic…demonetization *as i understand it* is on a per-video basis;
So yeah, with a very few exceptions of highly offensive slurs or in the case of children in the audience, I don’t understand it either.

The reason people self censor is because different platforms have different rules. So instead of being terminally online to the point of memorizing all the rules, older people just play it safe and self censor.
Why?
Because the drama of making a new account because you got banned for profanity is annoying. It’s not a hill most people want to die on. We’re tired of making 80 million accounts. We don’t want to make more just to swear. It’s not worth it.
Self censorship is the logical best choice for casuals who don’t want to make new accounts or worry about bans.
Young kids can be mad about it all they want. They have free time to make new accounts. And are online enough to know all the rules.

I autocensor words on yt cuz I was already flagged 3 times for saying those words out loud, like fuck or kill or stuff like that, and I noticed the comments where I dont do a very thorough censoring like spelling with very weird characters like k1II the comments get shadowbanned or auto deleted
