His wounds in india were from being reckless while attacking a fortified town, not from the battle of hydaspes, that’s from the movie. He conquered the border states with their elephants then continued to conquer fortified towns south on his way to the ocean rather than attacking the larger empires further into india, which would have been very impractical, and more dangerous and less justifiable than fighting Porus.
