After 50 years this man’s family is moving out of his childhood home. In the 90’s McDonald’s gave out pine seedlings for Earth Day. 30 years of growth.

    1. Looks bigger than most of the trees I’ve seen in Maine, on a recent trip. It’s crazy how over-logged Maine’s forests look.

    2. When I was growing up we got a small sapling in 4th grade for Arbor Day. Mine is still alive. Planted it in 1977.

    3. I remember planting one of those McDonald’s trees. I wonder if it ever got to grow.

Edit: I looked it up on Google Earth. It’s not there lol.

You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. My parents moved a lot when I was a kid, constantly uprooted, constantly the new kid in school, nothing permanent… except my grandmother’s house. Her and my grandfather bought the house in the early 1960s, they raised my mom and her siblings there. It was a real constant until my grandmother died at the age of 86. We had to sell the house and now it’s gone, I no longer have that one permanent place to go to and remember everyone that lived when I was young. I can’t go into the basement and smell that familiar scent that takes me back to memories of my grandfather raising canaries, or letting me know we would go fishing on the weekend. Or being in the kitchen with my mom and grandmother making pasta. Remembering the huge family Christmas parties we used to have. It’s all gone now.
