Random fun fact: When the USSR dissolved, there were many treaties and agreements that had to be either terminated or transferred. Many of those agreements with the USSR were transferred to Russia. For example, the United Nations membership was considered “state continuity” and Russia took over the USSR’s permanent seat. For the nuclear arms control treaties, Russia was also the state continuity.
But for the Olympics, Russia did not continue with the USSR and instead started a new NOC…and thus the reset.
