    1. Camping out. I love the guy who mentioned it was like concert tickets because I also remember doing that!

The PS2 was one of the best ever. And the platinum cases where a good indication that the game you got was a banger. Vice City, San Andreas, Tony Hawk……

I camped in front of a Walmart in Rancho Cucamonga, CA for two days for a PS2. I was 15th in line.

At some point some jerks threw pumpkins at us from their truck as they drove by.

    4. 12 years ago, I did the same thing for the PS4. People were pushing and shoving and running like crazy to get a console. When I see these people just waiting patiently, I think to myself, long live the 90s and 2000s.

And then next year.. the twin towers fall and the globe changes and the feelings are felt indefinitely.

    6. I couldn’t find one on launch day, so I put my name down on a few waiting lists. I got a call from Toys R Us on Christmas Eve that they had some in stock. That was a pretty memorable Christmas.

    7. To put that into perspective. Those games would be $95 today. Inflation has just been really slow for games. I think super Metroid was like $120 bucks with inflation in some places

    8. I was in the 5th grade, my dad got me the ps2 from Kmart. It was a hell of a B-day gift on launch day.

Camped out starting at 11pm at a Best Buy that opened at 10am the following morning. There were still about 30 people ahead of me. Midnight Club and Smuggler’s Run were my first two games. I even picked up The Matrix DVD, because the system was my first DVD player, as well.

I literally just told the story of this night to my 19 year old daughter a couple weeks ago. I vividly remember this entire night.

    10. I remember this quite well, my dad got me a gift card at BestBuy for the cost of a PS2 for Christmas of that year because he didn’t get one before they sold out, which I was perfectly fine with but slightly disappointed. Unbeknownst to me PS2 had no games until that legendary Christmas 2001 season hit and I really didn’t miss anything for the first few months I didn’t have one. Dark Cloud carried me through that darkness of that period until MGS2 and the like came out

    11. Every single person present in the moment. Not even a single brick Nokia in anyone’s hand

    12. I rented one from blockbuster on release day and just didn’t return it. Paid a little more than retail with the deposit, but worth!

It’s crazy how these guys purchased their consoles and calmly walked with their purchase in hand. Nowadays you buy something on release day and you gotta be paranoid someone will stick a gun in your face and rob you. Definitely different times.

I love how intense the first two guys were, and how many times the last guy said “you know”
