In the 2024 Presidential Election, 65% of the U.S. citizen voting-age population reported voting, according to the Census Bureau. Last week, I used data from the Current Population Survey Voting Supplement, to create a visualization showing how voter turnout was different by age. This week, I created this visualization to show how turnout changes by educational attainment.

    • Both the raw estimates (millions of people) and the percentages are shown in separate views (see second image).
    • Turnout rises sharply with higher levels of education: from 36% among adults without a high school diploma to 83% among those with a graduate degree.

    1. I don’t know why I didn’t expect this. I guess I want to believe that the more educated people vote, the lower the chances of someone like Trump winning.

      This is very disheartening.

    2. The inclusion of the “did not respond” counts is much appreciated. Wish more did this.

    3. Educated people go out to vote, but they are a minority for the population as a whole.

Imo this is a wonderful representation of how things have shifted. Historically (and still to this day to ab extent), the more educated you were, the more likely you were to vote democrat. However, polls from last year showed that 50% of college educated people voted for Trump. So while education does play a factor in whether people vote blue or not, it’s clearly no longer the sole defining factor.

I think the democrats need to take a hard look at themselves and figure out where they went wrong, mainly amongst white americans (again, half of american white women voted for trump).

More people with college degrees voted than people with hs degrees and Trump still won. This country is cooked
