I listened to the Industrial Revolutions Podcast and it confirmed what I always suspected…. fucking Scotland carried the British Empire.

    2. So this why when I hear of the British Empire The English are mentioned but Scots are silent?!

      Ah nah, put em up!

    3. Remember The Empire and The Union is diverse and tolerant 🙂 Don’t ask Parliament how they gathered so many people together or what they did though >:(

    4. I’m often surprised how many people don’t understand the difference between English and British.

Now don’t get me wrong Scotland is definitely the smaller kingdom between the two.

But despite that, it’s a significant part of what makes the British, well, British!

They’re an integral part of the British identity and many historic Scot’s have contributed to science, engineering and so much modern technology.

A surface look at popular history would have you believe that Scotland is an underdeveloped backwater province rather than the industrialised, well educated and integral part of the UK that it actually is.

A lot like the Austrians claiming they were the “first victims” of the Third Reich. Nah dude, you were very much along for the ride.

    6. Scotland England, Basque Spanish. It is a very morally complicated dynamic.

Still funny to think of 4 chan coming up with the exact opposite mentality that Scotland was a better country when it was actively progressing the empire and making moves to control it.
