You know, normally the picture unrelated memes mention whom they are actually talking about. This one doesn’t so I just have no idea who it is praising.

Many folks know why he’s fussed about similar with why whenever Haitians are mentioned they pull the “they killed women and children”. Very likely did, specifically those who did not side with them during the war and openly wanted slavery to continue. It is History and it’s never clean.
Side note, and not towards you Op, but anyone who usually talks only of Brown. I have a minor gripe about the African Americans singing the dude’s name and praising, unless you have citation it was massive as there were those who did upon his hanging, but I don’t recall it be that renowned such as sung on spirituals or common nomenclature. Only because there were many Afro Diaspora who fought for freedom but Brown is the only guy who gets props. But eurocentric Freedom and ignoring the literal hundreds that died for freedom only to focus on one man gives white savior complex. Even Atun Shei Films (checkmate Linconites) had a video on it cause that’s all folks focused on, as well as a few bots and reposters here tried defame Fredrick Douglass as if he was a Pacifist for freedom while making Brown seem like the better one with methods (Using the King Von killer meme). Just wanna prevent any revisionism and (literal) white washing on here.

I pray every day that God grants me a fraction of the conviction he gave Brown.
Just as I pray that, as there is a special place in hell for traitors; there is a special place in heaven for John Brown

he killed a random dude in his house in front of his family with a SWORD for being a slavery sympathizer. not an owner, a sympathizer.

I must have missed the version of the Bible where Jesus and his desciples dragged a man and his teenage sons out of their home and killed them.
Brown may have been one of the few white men in America who preached AND practiced civil and social equality between the races, and he may have been advocating against what was certainly an humanitarian crises, but sometimes he was a bloody-handed sociopath who would just as soon shoot a man for not being against slavery.

I think my favorite tale about John Brown was that, allegedly, when his children disobeyed he made them BEAT HIM to make them see how their actions could hurt others. My hippie upbringing is unsure how to feel about corporal punishment like that either but I do appreciate the conviction and meaning it when he would have said “this hurts me more than it hurts you.”

John Browns actions did nothing to end slavery. They had zero chance of success.
He was the Luigi Mangioni of his day. He just went out and killed people for political reasons without actually accomplishing anything, or having any realistic hope of success.
We should choose heroes that actually ended slavery, like Lincoln or Grant or Sherman.

People who detract from John Brown because some innocents were killed in the crossfire never seem very upset about the millions of slaves worked to death.

What would he say about his descendant bad bad Leroy Brown?

Don’t get me wrong, I love John Brown. The guy had the right idea, slavery was pure evil and needed to be ripped out by the roots. That said his execution (no pun intended) wasn’t great. Harpers Ferry was a disaster.

Jesus was ok with slavery, so we know john brown couldn’t have read that out of him
