How did Nasser even allow Israel to catch them off guard?
Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran on the 22nd–23rd of May, and Israel had already declared that they would consider this an act of war. The Israelis launched their “pre-emptive strike” on the 5th of June, almost two weeks later, yet the Egyptian forces were still caught by surprise.

The last major Arab military victory against non-Arabs was probably during the Crusader era. Almost 1k years ago.
Edit: people downvoting me think “Arab = Muslim” lol

I still call it the “Six Day Spanking”.
The Arab countries choked harder than Atlanta in Super Bowl 51.

So Israel illegally attacked neighbouring countries’ militaries, stole land, displaced over 300 000 innocent Palestinians, murdered thirty American sailors and caused less than 20 000 casualties on both sides combined.
Not very “crazy”. Just shitty.

Yeah it was insane, cuz contrary to popular myth isntrael wasn’t the underdog.
It got advanced planes from France, and Egypt wasn’t even planning on any war. They were tied down in Yemen.
Arab forces were caught off guard BECAUSE THEY WERENT EVEN PREPARING FOR THE FKING WAR.
Isntrael is the Goliath in this David vs Goliath.

Incredible that France pulled military and diplomatic support for Israel just before this, partly to improve relations with Arab states after they torched their own reputation because of the Algerian War, only for Israel to dunk on the Arabs and win in such a quick and overwhelming fashion, using French equipment to do it.
In result, France lost a major arms customer, which American contractors eagerly replaced, with Israel becoming a voracious buyer of American military equipment, and lost any semblance of a foothold in the Middle East as the Arabs never really saw the French as anything more than European colonisers who were poorer than the Americans and had less to offer, and now because of their flip, the Israelis then saw them as betrayers who could never truly be trusted.
Ironically, despite all this effort, France’s strategy still didn’t prevent them from getting slapped by the Arab 1973 oil embargo.
