Catastrophizing.
It *feels safer* to jump to worst case scenarios, because it’s a predictable outcome, and worrying and planning for it feels like you’re doing *something* about your anxiety.
Sitting with uncertainty feels like doing *nothing*, but then you’re not wasting mental energy on scenarios that may never happen, allowing you the mental bandwidth to deal with the situation that’s actually in front of you.
