She wasn’t my teacher but my class cried when the shuttle blew up. She was *America’s* teacher and I think a lot of us kids felt it, she was a celebrity to us.

I’m not even joking Christine Maculiffe visited our school about 6 months before Challenger. I vividly remember our class sitting in the media center watching the launch and the explosion. All the teachers were dead silent for a few minutes and then ushered us back to class. The next year they put in a small memorial in the Library with a picture from when she was at the school
