Allegedly, the Mongol wanted to conquer India, but was convinced not to when he encountered an Indian rhinoceros.

    More realistic reasons included;

    1. The intense heat of Indian summers
    2. The intense, incessant rains of Indian monsoons that were unsuitable for Mongol weapons, clothes and paraphernalia
    3. The succession of high mountains, desert, alluvial plains and then high mountains again that would have been Chinghis's route through India back to Mongolia or China
    4. Sultan Iltutmish of Delhi, the first truly independent monarch of the Sultanate of Hindustan, used adept diplomacy to keep the Khwarizmian Shah at his western bordet without actually giving him any helo so that Chinghis's couldn't use any excuse to invade India in the first place.
