    1. They mean 40-50s, not 20s.

Still going strong mid 30s, or perhaps even stronger. I actually love my kid and want the world to be the best it can be for them. So definitely eat the rich!

“You’ll become more conservative when you get older” is just an old-timey spelling of “I grew up around leaded gasoline fumes and now I have permanent brain damage.”

People think being conservative makes them sound grown up while they really act like selfish, scared little children. The media and even Dems and independents fully buy into this “grown up” bs.

    4. Hey, 40+ year-old white male me: same.

I was raised conservative, and learning how the world works cured me of that. It’s all scams and abuse, all the way down.

    5. Mid-40s male raised by ultra conservative Pentecostal Christian doomsday preppers

I’m a moderate socialist at the very least

All of the older conservatives I know just believe whatever is on fox news and don’t bother thinking for themselves. They sort of just tuned out of reality a long time ago.

    7. Applicable quote from Historian Dee Brown- “America has always been concerned about protecting the rights of those who already have them.”

And MAGA is not conservative- it is reactionary.

    8. There was a great meme takedown of this on Reddit some years ago.

Basically, survivorship bias. The people who make it to old age are more often the ones who started rich and had easy lives free from economic hardship and stress, had and have the best healthcare, never had to work a dangerous job or live in a place routinely exposed to high levels of pollution, and, if they chose, ate the healthiest (expensive) food. Those people, being already wealthy, tend to be conservative, naturally.

It explains the Boomers a bit too; most of the lefty, radical, interesting, and community-focused ones who grew up poor died young. All that remains are the rich curmudgeons.

    9. I’m in my mid 60s and I’ve become much more liberal, I’m very nearly a socialist. And I have property to protect. But I hear about people who are struggling so hard to get any kind of foothold and I’m like “childbirth paid leave for all, Medicare, for all, tax the rich, unions everywhere, value comes from the worker, and the worker should be compensated, power to the people, separation of church and state”

The point of conservatism is to redistribute wealth from the working class to the global elite.

    11. Most of the people I’ve seen at local “No Kings” and similar rallies are my age (50s) and older. I’ve seen people mocking the mostly middle aged white women protesting at Tesla dealerships, etc. A lot of GenZ are definitely not progressive or liberal.

    12. 40 year old me still.

When they mean older, they mean around my age.

I don’t get the appeal of being a heartless hypocrite.

    13. I really don’t get why they say this…. the older I get, the more I care about my community.
