The world’s largest hand-woven pictorial carpet, a 27-meter Persian masterpiece from 1870, has been unveiled. It depicts a grand building, two rows of 12 soldiers in different uniforms, human figures, women in local dress, architecture, plants, ships, fish, and water motifs. [1680×1001]

Today, the world’s largest pictorial handwoven carpet was unveiled in Akbarieh Garden, Birjand, South Khorasan, Iran. This unique Qajar-era masterpiece, originally preserved at the Golestan Palace in Tehran, was transferred to Birjand for public display.

Woven in the Derakhsh region of Darmian, the carpet depicts a grand mansion, soldiers, the sea, ships, veiled women, and other cultural symbols. It’s not only as the largest pictorial carpet in Iran, but also as an unrivaled work on the global stage.

Birjand, Darmian, and Derakhsh have long been among the historic centers of Persian carpet weaving. To highlight the global significance of the event, information about the carpet and the accompanying artifacts has been translated into six major world languages and shared with international media.
