Blanche Barrow was captured in August,1933. Blanche was the only member of the gang to survive. She weighed only 81 pounds when she was captured and was just 22 years old. Her frail state was due to weeks of running, hiding, and surviving shootouts alongside Bonnie and Clyde. Despite her small size, Blanche endured one of the gang’s most famous gun battles at Dexfield Park in Iowa. During that fight, her husband, Buck, was fatally wounded, and Blanche herself was blinded in one eye from flying glass.

Blanche went on to serve six years in prison, then lived quietly until her death in 1988.

Allegedly, the reason she looks so scared is that she thought the person taking her picture was raising a gun to kill her. The absolute pressure of being on the run for so long while being paranoid that anyone in your circle could sell you out at any point might drive you to be as depleted (for lack of a better word) as her.

    2. She looks disturbed just by how those around her stop & stare. Obviously nobody has been helping her for some time. She could be suffering from addiction or even the effects of late stage syphilis. I can only imagine how rare this photo is & how few have seen it.
