    1. There is no better way to expose yourself as ignorant than the “democrats were the party of slavery/segregation” crap. Everyone with a functioning brain knows that the descendants of southern slave holders and segregationists overwhelmingly vote MAGA.

Remember that the parties while still being named as such actually flipped ideologies. The Democrats were the Conservative Party until about the Great Depression. Many Republicans fail to understand this and claim Lincoln was on *their side*.

    3. Founded as the democratic Republican Party.

There were the members of the party who were “fed up” with federalism – taxes to support federal spending and the federal government “imposing” on states rights. They split off the party into the Democratic Party, which at the time of its inception, was the party of no taxes and states rights.

Yes, everyone should remember that the Republican party was founded on woke ideology. Republicans now cry if anyone says slavery was ever bad, when the party was founded on a single issue: “slavery bad”.

Lincoln was a liberal progressive, tell that to your Maga friends and watch their heads explode. We should really be putting this on Tshirts.

aaaand the John Birch Society resides here in Wisconsin. And let’s not forget Joseph McCarthy. Completely overshadowing Robert Lafollette and William Proxmire…..

Bruce Jenner used to be a man!, so some things do flip in the opposite direction!.

    8. u/iTrCool Yes, the parties did switch. This is well documented. Republicans decided to appeal to the Dixiecrats racism after the rest of the Democratic party supported civil rights. Given the Republican Party is currently trying to put statues back up of Confedederate generals and are trying to change the names of bases back to original names of Confederate heros, and are trying to downplay the horrors of chattel slavery, the modern Republican party has absolutely no claim to the legacy of Lincoln.

    9. I love how they say “but the party switch” sarcastically. Like… yeah… the parties switched ideologies.

You can’t claim to be against slavery and claim to be the party of Lincoln while also waving a confederate flag. These people are so profoundly, insanely stupid, it makes me hate being on the internet.

I wish people would stop thinking of politics as team sports and vote based on making society better. Like, who cares which party supported slavery 100 years ago? Stop voting for people who would support bringing it back!

I can accept that is history and the truth. My question is now how can the party that defeated the Confederacy support the waving of the Confederate flag today?

    12. “**My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union**, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. **If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do**, it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and **if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that**. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union…I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free.”

And now they rename military installations for the traitors who took up arms against the United States in order to preserve slavery.

      Sad!

    14. Is this why Trump declared that slavery was good? And the Republicans want to restore the Confederate statues? They keep wanting to deny the existence of the Southern Strategy

    15. Trumpsabaldcuck on

Alright, so the party of Lincoln is against slavery and the Confederacy.  So they will join us in bringing down Confederate monuments and renaming places named after Confederate leaders.

    16. If this is true, then why are the Southern states voted for Republicans? I’ll wait for their response.

    17. DarkArmyLieutenant on

We have tried to explain to those vacuous rubes about the party change and platform change an infinite number of times at this point. They don’t want to understand. They just want to hate.

    18. Haulingsworth on

Back then Democrats were from southern states and northern states were Republican.

In Georgia it took over 100 years to elect a Republican governor. The first Republican governor was a Democrat but switched parties before he ran, so was the second one. The same goes for the Georgia legislature, they all switched parties.

Also, Georgia has a lot of Confederate monuments, but none honoring the greatest Republican President of all time, Abraham Lincoln.

    19. Got it, so Republicans today are also anti-slavery and will happily vote to ratify the 13th Amendment to abolish prison labor, yes??

And if it was Republicans who were fighting against slavers, who were part of the Confederacy, then Republicans of today should all be in favor of taking down Confederacy monuments, etc., right?!

Or are you just talking out of your ass and don’t mean anything you say??
