    1. This photo is one of the two colossal statues that once marked the entrance to the Temple of Ahmenhotep III, which was once the largest temple in the Theban necropolis. I can’t even imagine what this temple would have been like in its prime.

      The statues are named after the Greek god of Memnon, as the Romans mistakenly thought they represented him. There are over 100 Roman inscriptions from the first centuries A.D. on the statue as well.

      Thebes is a treasure trove of wonders, both large and small. It’s one of those sites that everyone should have the chance to visit, even though it can be daunting due to the amount of sites and the pesky scammers that roam around.
