The cemetery has been discovered in the city of Kiasar, Mazandaran Province, Iran. The first sign of the cemetery’s existence goes back to 2009, when agricultural activities led to the discovery of the first tomb, containing the skeleton of a Parthian soldier with all his military equipment. From that year, a stream of major and emergency excavations began with several archaeological teams excavating the area, which have continued to this day and have yielded extremely valuable results.

As the excavations continued, the number of discovered tombs increased from 1 to 60. Tombs with fetal burial methods and graves with pit architecture where the bodies were buried in an open vault. These types of burials represent a complex burial method during the Parthian period. After years of research and excavations, it has now been revealed that this area is a very large Parthian cemetery with more than 250 tombs of Parthian soldiers, which has undeniable historical significance.
