Lol. The entire middle east thinks Rumi and Shams were just good friends.

I think the male loneliness epidemic would be solved if we normalized sharing a bed with the homies like we used to.

It used to just be the anti-homosexual “NO! THEY WERE JUST FRIENDS!” but now we have that but also on the opposite side of the spectrum “NO, THEY MUST’VE BEEN LOVERS!”

I think theres a BIG difference between pop history (which often assigns anachronistic labels onto any possible situation that would grab attention) and establishment academic historians (who too often demean any form of re-examination, no matter how thorough, as pop/psuedo history).

It’s definitely overdone but there are some people out there that were undeniably gay. Looking at you Fredrick II.

I 100% agree with this post *except* for speculation about James Buchanan. His relationship with William King may have certainly been a bit more than just platonic

Isn’t it amazing how whether two same-sex friends were totally just best buddies or were super hardcore lovers is entirely dependent on how over or undersexed historians are at the given moment? We need to make sure historians are getting just the right amount of debauchery. Enough to get them to see that human nature has that side to it, but not so much that they think everyone is into that.
