Seriously though, it’s really amazing to see something so ordinary, and so perishable, preserved so well for nearly two thousand years. Great works of art, sculpture, mosaics, architecture, gems, jewelry, weapons, coins, etc, are all fascinating and amazing artifacts, sure, but the little, fragile, everyday things that are rarely, if ever, preserved add so much to a sense of reality of the past and a visceral understanding that long ago people were just people like us, living their lives as best they could in the society they were born into.
