Those look like artificial nostrils, not a nose. Were they shoved inside their noses?

An interesting find, given that they don’t appear to be a replacement nose (i.e. due to injury or illness). Maybe a transient or unique decision based on how the individuals died, i.e. to ensure they could breathe?
