We’re rapidly working towards Idiocracy

    1. Sounds like a school district that doesn’t have any standards. That’s a shame because that really hurts Nobody but the student

    2. Looks like we’re priming the next generation for the ai revolution. Don’t do anything yourself, just write a few lines when you get around to it and let the ai take it from there. If you don’t like the results, embrace them anyway and go back to learning the next dance steps on TikTok

They’re making the passing grade low enough so the village idiot’s kids can make it through. Sounds like everyone’s given up, including the people in charge of the curriculum.

    4. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding but it seems to read, “I don’t award points for creativity and now I don’t know how to tell the creative kids they aren’t getting more points.”

    5. It is hard.

On one hand kids should not “work just for the grades”. They should do it “for themselves”

      That is true.

BUT! School is “imaginary” world, we teach/learn accorind from some made up curicullum. The challanges kids face are “made up”, to give them opportunity to grow.

And in that imaginary world grades made sense. They gave structure and bounduaries.

Without them it is much harder to justify own exta effort.

This is exactly the problem with many educational ideas in U.S schools. They never consider that there *should* be rewards for good work, and there *should* be consequences for bad work. There should be rewards and consequences to balance every classroom behaviour.

This obsession with graduation rates and test scores (because they are falling due to problems in the educational system) has been met with the idea to hide the data rather than fix what is causing the data.

And the system will continue to crash and burn, but because of the skewed stats: it looks rosy, people get their bonuses, and the whole thing looks healthy, but the learners it creates are helpless and dejected.

This is going to have massive societal impacts as time progresses.

I would institute rewards systems and consequences. Even if it was just stickers and verbal “Are you sure that’s the best you can do?” High expectations are key to good classrooms and good learners.

Pretty strong rumor in my district that next year students failing will not be allowed. If a student is failing the parent must be contacted personally by phone (no email or voicemail) and provided a list of missing work that the student must submit with no due date. They can submit whenever they want.

Had the same issue 30years ago. First year of college worked like a daemon. Did three times the work needed. At no point did anyone say I was doing to much. Those that did the bar minimum got the same marks. Only then was I told I did to much. The following year myself and other demanded in writing what had to be done for each project from the lecturer. They were not happy as it was more work for them but we got our point across.

Great work etiquette is being tought 😀

This won’t have any consequences in the long term.

    10. What on earth do you mean….working towards it…..your streets in front of the rest of the world.
It seems to me the children are being brought down to the same level of incompetence as the manufacturers of this stupid policy

You need to educate the kids about what kind of life style that attitude earns you. I guess you can work at Dad’s dealership. Seriously if I was a kid knowing what I know I’d be hiring the books hard AF

This reminds me of a classic experiment in economics. A proff at a Texas U told his students he would average the scores and everyone would get the class average grade. After a while the A students stopped bothering because their work didn’t pay off and the average quality dropped so much that everyone failed. Sounds like someone has arranged the rules to ensure nobody in this class gets an education … perhaps thats so that people like Trump can get elected but that might be a stretch.

    13. Sounds like they’re getting the kids ready for the realities of their future employment.

I would have thought that at least “on time” would be a quantifiable standard.
