These types of connectors are fairly common in industrial applications. In the office we have several pieces of survey equipment that have moved over to USB-C as their main interface that all have thumbscrews.

I have this Taurus docking station. The screws go into the docking station and are a passable deterrent for purposefully removing the cable for other uses or to accidentally removing the one USB-C that controls everything.

I miss those type of connectors. I was able to swing an entire PC like a hammer throw. I miss the DVI days.
