      The two arches pictured are not actually from the Ming dynasty. Both the “勇壮简易” and the “闽越雄声” arches seen above are actually from the middle years of the Kangxi emperor’s reign during the early Qing dynasty. But all four of the stone arches, both Ming and Qing, were raised in honor of the academic and military achievements of some stand-out members of the local gentry, including senior Ming dynasty officials and a Qing governor-general.
