The Stele of Vultures – the oldest known war monument. It was erected to celebrate the victory of king Eannatum of Lagash over Ush, King of Umma in the Umma-Lagash war (~2500BC). This particular fragment shows Eannatum leading a phalanx of soldiers into battle. [4032×3024]
