Located in the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

    This sarcophagus, designed as the final resting place of a military commander, is decorated with a battle scene between soldiers and Amazons, or warrior women.

    The Amazons ride horses; their fallen sisters lie dead on the ground. Dressed in light, tight-fitting tunics, the riders' movement is indicated by their flying cloaks, called himations. They are armed with two-headed axes and spears and protect themselves with crescent-shaped shields.

    1. That’s not a *real* amazon. A *real* amazon cuts off one of her breasts to stop it from interfering with archery. Hence *a* (without) + *mazon* (breast). :o)
