
You are going to die. If that isn't motivation enough to get you to do the things you want to do and to stop caring about what others think, I don't know what is.
I've had these two words on my phone screen for almost a decade. Remembering death has been the biggest motivator for me to use my time wisely and to make the most out of my years on earth.

You realize that’s something Roman slaves said to victorious/celebrated leaders? In other words, it’s a phrase to remind the “winners” that they too are frail & mortal. It’s not a motivator: it’s a warning to not become so arrogant at one’s accomplishments.

**Addendum** – Yea, it’s thrown around a lot in various different ways through Stoicism & Christianity. But the Roman account predates them.
