Called the Lia Fáil in Irish, the stone is believed to have been brought from Scotland. It was placed on the Hill of Tara, a sacred spot covered with earthen mounds and enclosures dating from the Neolithic Era to the Iron Age; some of these earthworks can be seen in the background of the picture. The stone was believed to posses magical powers and was incorporated into the coronation ceremony for Irish kings. According to legend, the last time the stone “spoke” was at the coronation of Brian Boru in 1002.

I’ve heard of the Stone of Destiny, but for some reason, I always thought it was a lot taller. Like bigger than the plinths at Stonehenge
