Based on Parkinson's Law: Work expands to fill the time given for its completion.

Setting shorter deadlines isn't to exhaust yourself; it's to get rid of all the busywork and distractions so you can achieve your goals in less time.

    1. The organization that I work at recently pushed us to get certified with an online exam. Though there have been deadlines, it was not strictly mandatory. So I have seen colleagues saying they need to study for it and their timelines are usually like they plan to complete it in a month or two after 4-5 weeks of preparation. The deadline was extended a few times and a lot of people still cannot seem to find the time. But there are a lot of folks including myself who simply completed it in a day or two.

The point is some tasks will take as long as you allow them to take. Forcing yourself to make the task the number one priority and having a much stricter deadline can get you out of that comfort zone to start actually working on it.

This is such a great reminder! Deadlines can really help us focus and get things done faster than we think.
