There are a lot of different opinions out there, such as “3:2:1” or “4:2:1” or “5:3:1”. But considering that the Olympics originally awarded places 4-6, and even celebrated 8th place, shouldn’t these calibrated rankings take into account places 4 and below?

    2. You put USA above China in the 1st chart (pos 1 and pos 2) and yet said you were only counting Golds (gold = 1 other medals =0) even though US and China had equal golds and hence points. You did the same with Italy and Germany. So the number of silver and bronze must have been valued to order these countries even though you said those medals had zero value…

You label this as the official medal table and then state wrongly that only golds are scored. Of course the official table does count silver and bronze as 2nd and 3rd order impacts.

If you are truly just counting only golds in chart 1 then USA and China should be equal 1st and Germany/Italy should be equal 9th but then it would not be the official table.
