During the 2nd Anglo-Boer War, the Boers used the 75mm Krupp artillery piece, which had a 4.6km range, 4.3kg projectile weight, and explosive shrapnel. During the siege of Ladysmith, Winston Churchill boarded an armored train to report on the town's conditions. The Boers planned to sabotage the train by firing shells at it, and during the skirmish, two shells were aimed at the boiler but had their safety caps still on, derailing the train instead. Churchill was captured and imprisoned but escaped. These two shells could have hit Churchill and changed history, highlighting the significance of chance events.
