I spent more than a year researching & writing this sentence! Since 2022, I’ve been communicating with modern Stoic thinkers and learning about philosophy while I fine-tuned a simple, one-sentence description of Stoicism. Today, it finally feels finished. [Image]

I started this project by reaching out to two dozen modern Stoic writers & philosophers for feedback last year, and they were very receptive and helpful. I compiled all of their ideas on “the simplest one-sentence definition of Stoicism,” then started working on my own. There’s much more to Stoic philosophy, of course, but I think this definition is equally concise, accurate and elegant. It was a great way to teach myself more about a topic that I love!
