      I know what it is! It’s not rust! It’s irritation! The blade’s allergic to work, and this is the result!!

      My guess would be that this is the result of corrosion spreading out from a few nucleation centres, where the details of the corrosion varied according to environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc), giving rise to the coloured bands. So it’s basically like tree rings. If this is true, you should be able to find similar band patterns around different centres, just like with tree rings.
