Star Wars wasn’t futurism either in its story (A long time ago…) *or* in its themes. Lucas and the production team were specifically harkening back to the old serial films they grew up in.

Han and Chewie are the cowboy and his native sidekick, etc. there was a book released alongside the movie called [The Star Wars Album](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/The_Star_Wars_Album) that very specifically laid out all the old film references and aesthetic cues they took from the movies of their childhood. It looked back.

So even though it’s “retro” insofar as this artwork is old, it wasn’t created back then *as* futurism. It was an homage to the past.
