The data I used is from [Chelsa.org](https://chelsa-climate.org) and the choice of 100km square is a little arbitrary (could have been 50 or 200 and yielded slightly different results, same as the way they “fall” on the earth surface but well…) I hope this little experiments can put into perspective some cool aspect of climate, some general patterns.
We can see that the most diverse places are mountainenous but also feature a powerful rain shadow effect (Pacific Northwest and South Asia, with the monsoon blowing against the Himalaya / Karakoram). Even if Kashmir / Ladakh comes second, the whole region looks overall even more diverse than the American PNW.
In the case of Ladakh / Kashmir, there are also cold, dry winds blowing from central asia, with very steep elevation gradients, producing this diversity of climates. How very cool! I have been there (Karakoram) and I’m still dreaming about it…
Very cool! I love that I can see on the map where I live and immediately understand how my climate is more or less variable than other places. This is a great connection.

If you liked this map, I have some good news for you. I make maps and share them [here](https://www.perrinremonte.com/home-bis) on my website. You can also find similar maps as this one I just posted [here](https://www.perrinremonte.com/expe-eng) which is the experimental part of my mapping adventures.
