      It sounds like, along with a lot of tales from the western frontier, his exploits were heavily mythologized.

      The story of Johnson’s one man war against the Crow is hogwash. It (and alot of the other more sensational tales about the man) can be traced back to a single source, *Crow Killer* (1958); which today is considered to be far more fantastical fiction than actual fact.
