Jeetu Munda, a 50-year-old tribal man from Odisha, took a desperate and harrowing step after being caught in a loop of banking red tape. Following the death of his sister, Kalra Munda, in January 2026, Jeetu attempted to withdraw her remaining savings of ₹20,000. Despite informing the bank of her passing, staff at the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank allegedly insisted that the “account holder must be present” to process the withdrawal. Unaware of how to obtain a formal death certificate or navigate legal heirship, Jeetu exhumed his sister’s skeleton and carried it on his shoulders for 3 kilometers to the bank to provide “physical proof” that she could no longer visit in person. The incident has sparked massive public outrage regarding the lack of sensitivity and guidance provided to marginalized and uneducated communities by financial institutions. Following the viral outcry, local authorities have directed the bank to immediately release the funds to Jeetu.

Every body asking about Death certificate.let me tell you something…..
Death certificate will cost around 10k with bribes.
Without bribe you can’t even get a single thing from govt officials.

“Banks hate this one simple trick!”

but for real though, did it work? did he get the money?

    7. I mean, in the banks defense, they DO need some formal notation that the account holder is deceased. Why would a bank just take your word for it? They should’ve walked him through a death certificate but still.
