As a Dutch European can we talk about the house and techno? Because I feel like my country in particular holds a pretty big claim to that scene and I’m curious what the pathway from black culture to Dutch DJ’s looks like if that is indeed the case.

    2. And jazz came from white culture. The instruments came from war instruments after the civil war.

Idk why we can’t all just be happy

It just goes to show you a pattern of how they like to erase history and not pay homage. And, it’s still that way.

    4. I just saw a YouTube content creator do a segment on his introduction to gospel and mentioned that he bumped into a “random movie” (Sister Act) that had people singing gospel, where it made him dive into it, and he found the music had “many jazz influences” in it.

      I stopped warching immediately. .

    5. Black culture? Even that undersells it. It came directly from black peoples minds hearts and hands, and formed “culture” from which they all borrow.

I didn’t know eye rolling came from black culture. I definitely thought that one was white women.

    7. It’s not just black culture tho, it’s more of a clashing of different cultures together. In Latin America the clash is more obvious as you have the African slave clashing with indigenous cultures creating Salsa, cumbia, bachata etc. and I’m sorry but white people are just as much a part of this clashing as everyone else.

    8. This community seems to have a huge complex about not getting enough credit — so much so that it tries to claim too much in the name of “black culture”.

Next I’ll be reading again about how black people (which ones, I don’t know) invented the hair braid and no one else should be able to wear it.

    9. As a Caribbean can we add Merengue, Bomba, Salsa, Son, Calypso, Soca, the list goes on. Black culture permeates and influences our sensibility, it’s the blueprint, to ignore it is a disservice and detrimental to our learning and progress as a society.

I always thought all modern ‘western’ music comes from black culture. There’s classical music and there’s black music.

    11. For this that question if house is black need to read about Frankie Knuckles. It created safe spots for lgbtq black and Latinos in small houses in Chicago or The Warehouse then spread to nearby Detroit. Detroit techno was a huge hit in stripped because it paid. They didn’t make shit in Detroit.

So yeah house is funk soul and disco mix with the energy of gospel. And Techno was pioneered by Juan Atkinson Kevin Sauderson and Derrick May, also all black and Hispanic.

Give me my invented everything medal🤣

In all seriousness why does this even matter what are we going to achieve from crying about what was spawned from our culture? Genuine question

Techno came from German/French/Italian culture. Sorry but Kraftwerk, Jean Micheal , Giorgio Maroder were the OGs of Techno
