I got one of these done once! It ended up taking like 6 hours because apparently my sinuses are particularly labyrinthine

    2. That’s not infected mucosa, it’s a cleaning for someone who has had or has nasal polyps. I had it done every 3 months by my ENT as polyps regrew and trapped all that crap. Your sinuses are way bigger and more expansive than just your nose btw, it’s pretty awful stuff.

I hate when it lingers on the back of your soft palate and no matter how hard you try you can’t get it to come out, and it makes you gag. This makes me gag for other reasons.

Thank you for showing us basic medical care that could easily bankrupt a person here in the US.

      Did we win?

    5. I had to get a septino plasty due to a partial collapse in my nose that rendered one nostril pretty much impossible to use even with his camera thing.

When they pulled out the stitches and padding the doc got back there with that vac thing and pulled a huge wad of mucus a tiny bit smaller than a golf ball.

One thing of note was that I had spent most of my life not realizing I wasn’t able to breath properly through my nose, so I would inhale forcefully to get some air flow.

When all was said and done, I was breathing so hard through my now cleared nasal passage out of muscle memory that I would get light headed because the air flow was so much better.

I had a surgery called “the wash” that was much like this. I was less than 10 and puked blood. two decades later very little sinus problems and through sports and playing Tuba, My asthma was diminished. I’m lucky

    7. I’m on antibiotics right now because I have a sinus infection and an ear infection. I would have loved to get in there and vacuumed it out.

While I’ve never had this procedure, I have had, three times in my life, this weird sinus thing.

Basically a sinus infection – the pressure builds up in my face. But upon leaning down, an audible (to me) *pop* could be heard. After the pop, there would be a huge release of pressure, followed by the most disgusting smell enveloping the inside of my face. It was so pungent.

I stand up, bend over and hug my legs to release the pressure when this happens. I sort of became addicted to the terrible smell that followed, since the pressure release was so good. It’s like something inside of my face is popping.

I asked a few close people if they could smell it. My girlfriend said yes, and said “that’s what the smell was?? I thought you were farting”.

My mom said she couldn’t smell anything.

The few posts I’ve made about it on Reddit have gotten responses *YEARS* after.

I’ve yet, to this day, figured out what it is. It seems to be either sinus infection > sinus abscess, or sinus infection > inflammation closing off a part of the sinus, allowing bacteria to fester and rot.

If anyone has experienced this and figured out what it is, let me know!

    9. Oh man I got to experience this once. I can confirm that it felt amazing.

I had surgery to correct a deviated septum and had to do 2–3 follow-up visits with the surgeon a few months apart after things healed up in there. I just happened to catch a nasty cold and randomly got an insanely painful sinus infection after the cold and was suffering through it on the day of the last follow-up appointment.

I got in the exam chair so he could check the healing progress on the site of the operation and he stuck the thing up there with a camera and a sucking function and just cleared all the gunk out. It was glorious. I didn’t even end up having to take antibiotics for the infection because he literally removed all the fluid that was stuck up there. I was fully recovered by that afternoon.

I had this operation last year, sinus had got massively infected to the point I had a migraine constantly for 6 months while the doctors tried to treat it with antibiotics.

I cannot express how much better I feel after this, I can breath through my right nostril again, which means more oxygen so my energy levels are back up. My body isn’t constantly fighting an infection so I’m not run down, and ever since I had it done my hayfever, which was debilitating, is essentially gone.

It was just a day in hospital, had general anesthesia and literally no bruising afterwards. Highly recommend.

I actually think i need this now

Had congestion and a cough for weeks, its like always coming from my nose but no amount of coughing or blowing my nose clears it

    12. My sinuses are so bad they do this to me on a semi routine basis. It’s taken many surgeries, allergy shots, several prescriptions, but it finally feels managed.

My last surgery the doctor went over time and said it was the worst he’d ever seen. One of the nurses knew my wife from nursing school and was like “your husbands sinuses shocked everyone in that room.”

I had major jaw surgery, and they extended it by hours to clean my sinuses. The surgeon made the call during surgery that it was necessary.

Chronic sinusitis is awful. After my first surgery I gently blew my nose and filled both hands (I was in a hot shower, yes it’s gross I know but that’s what they told me to do). When I say filled both hands I’m 5’ 11” I don’t have small hands lol it was like… a cup of snot or more. And more kept coming out.

Real question. Why isn’t this a normal procedure? Is the risk too high. As a person with recurring sinus infections I’m slighted that this was never offered to me. Being able to go from potatoes head to a cool breeze on an autumn night must feel magnificent.
