My mom’s first husband when he was younger

I was looking through some family albums and found some cool pics of my mom's first husband when he was serving! The back of the second pic reads " loads of love from your loved one. this place is the dump we live in isn't it hell". from what I know about him he was a serious and stern man but once you got to know him he was loyal and protective and a devoted family man. unfortunately he passed away in the late 80s early 90s due to brain cancer.
