Context: After 35 inglorious years, Microsoft is killing off Microsoft Publisher.

Wtf, I thought they were killing microsoft project. We actually use that a lot at work. Would have been a huge problem

I actually did use Publisher a lot 20 years ago. It didn’t have the formatting problems that Microsoft Word had.

Microsoft Publisher was basically just the waiting room for people who didn’t want to pay for InDesign.

There goes all the useful information I learned in that high school class 12 years ago I haven’t used since anyway

I only ever opened Publisher by accident when I was actually trying to click on PowerPoint.

    7. I was looking for this app a year ago, but I don’t think my company used it. It would have been great to have for the protocol book I was making.

Only time I ever used that program was for one school project that required we use it.

I thought this was PowerPoint and was actually kind of miffed.

I mean, I haven’t used it in over a decade but still.

    10. I remember using publisher to make a pamphlet for a middle school project once… like 15 years ago.

    11. I made my resume in Publisher… Publisher is great for layout heavy documents. Any one have any idea of what will replace it?

I used to use publisher in middle school and high school for projects. Now I use canva. (Alexa play I forgot that you existed by Taylor swift)

Damn I used to like using publisher decades ago making birthday cards n for Mother’s Day lol

    14. We actually use that for some things at my job so… now I have Microslop even more.

Reading the wiki page for it and it seems interesting. Sad I never knew its existence before this post

    16. Single dad here. We used Publisher a lot to make signs for Girl Scout Cookies, and have used it more when she’s been selling her creations at art shows.

Multiple departments at my work rely on Publisher and use it daily. We’ve known its going away fro months but there’s literally nothing to replace it 1-for-1. Entire workflows and processes will have to change

    18. It’s far better than word for making brochures and fliers, so it was far from useless, just far more niche than the rest of the office suite.

    19. I only remember this thing to be used to make business cards. Not sure what else it can do, but that’s the usual gimmick of Office. Everybody pays for it, while what they use it for is only 1%-2% of what it can all do that you probably don’t need.

Did you know Microsoft Word has macros you can record and put into text documents? What the fuck do you need macros for in a text document?

Noooooooo. Publisher was goated for making infographics and posters and similiar

it was a child between word and powerpoint.

sadly, illustrator, inkscape and PowerPoint already existed.
