Basic in-group dynamics. It’s why black people use the n-word or why gay people will call each other slurs. When it’s done between those within the group it’s more likely to be perceived as fraternal teasing shared amongst friends, when it’s done by those outside the group it’s more likely to be perceived as hateful douchebaggery.
