We will be married 11 years, together for 16 in a couple months. This weekend we started dressing the same and realized we own the exact same pair of running shoes. The we went out for dinner and wore blue floral outfits. The old couple matching happens so fast. I used to make fun of those people. When did we merge into the same person?!

When my husband’s parents died and we were cleaning out their home to sell it, I came across an anniversary card that his dad just kept reusing every year. He would just update the number of years and draw a line through the old one. Then I found the one that his mom gave his dad. It was the exact same card as he bought for her! She did the same thing, updated the number of years. It was really sweet. I guess they figured there was no improving on the sentiments of those original anniversary cards so they just kept reusing them again and again.
I thought it was really sweet and that my husband would want to keep them. Nope. He looked at both of the cards, just shrugged, and tossed them into the trash. I pulled them back out and sent them to his sister, hoping she was more sentimental than my husband. If not, at least she got to see them and could throw them into the trash herself. They had been married a total of 51 years when his mom died. They didn’t start reusing the cards until their 10th anniversary, so there were 41 dates written and crossed out.

This year is only our 5th anniversary bit on our first, we gotveach other the exact same card and the same present in the same colour. My husband was a bit offended that I started laughing when I opened mine until he opened his too.
