These weeds are growing directly out of a fake lawn at my kids school

There’s something deeply dystopian about making children play on fake grass at school.

No more plucking flowers, grass and weeds or finding cool insects at recess.

Just a sterile environment in which you can’t even touch grass.

Yep. Very common in turf lawns. They need to weed spray, wait for it to dry and then rake/blow it off with a leaf blower. Ideally they’d treat with pre emergent over a long school break when the kids aren’t present

    3. Get those hairy bittercress out of there before they start spitting their seeds in everyone’s eyes. It’ll be never ending bittercress all the way down if they reseed themselves.

Astro turf used non sports contexts is an insult to mother nature & all of her creatures. Hey pollinators, ants, beetles, worms, birds, foragers go f yourselves

A few small weeds grow out of mine, its from the seeds that land on the surface and re root and intertwine within the grass. Before you ask, yes i have a membrane and a weed mesh under it too

Theyre not called colonizing species for nothing!
They fix the soil that has been destroyed 😉

I think turf is useful in small sections. Better than asphalt, pebbles or wood chips for a playground. I like that soft bouncy ashpalt but if we are talking leeching chemicals, that shit smells from a mile away on a hot day years after being poured. And i like parks to be inclusive. So i do not like woodchips or pebbles. But covering an entire field or lawn with turf should be a crime.
