To be fair Squidward did take it a bit too far, meanwhile SpongeBob’s were mostly harmless

SpongeBob pranks were pretty harmless compared to Squidward’s. I don’t use that as hypocrisy.🥲

Squidward’s “prank” was mean hearted

Not a fair comparison at all. SpongeBob’s pranks were a mild inconvenience at worst while Squidward’s probably would have hospitalized SpongeBob if it wasn’t a cartoon. Even keeping in mind that it’s a cartoon, SpongeBob didn’t inflict any kind of pain on anyone with his pranks while squidward’s entire prank was about inflicting tons of pain on SpongeBob with barely any humor involved.
Even the people that SpongeBob had pranked gave Squidward a dirty look, and he even realized himself that he took it too far.

I feel like there’s a difference between minor stuff like giving a little extra ice, and intentionally doing something that would majorly embarrass and realistically severely injure somebody while also causing a deal of property damage.

That scene broke my heart as a kid. Still does today

Are you forgetting that this was part of SpongeBob’s final April Fool prank to get Squidward to break down in tears in front of everyone?
SpongeBob was playing Chess, and OP was still trying to figure out how to open the box of Checkers
