Man, humans have made so many wonderful drugs for mice.

Mice medicine is just 15 years ahead of human medicine,of only we could learn from them

As a T1D how do I get into the human trials for this
AsherSparky on
Any trials avaliable?Â
(Dear fuck please)

Very interesting, and it’s not just type 1 diabetes, it has potential to help with other auto immune diseases.
I agree with the comments here that we need to fast track some human studies, this could be a game changer if we can get similar results in humans.

If we find out all the scientists disappeared under mysterious circumstances…

Oh no. Odds of getting into people is not great.
The Graft vs host disease is a big concern and even if it’s rare it may not be the right cost/benefit for T1D.
Also, I don’t see a patent so I don’t think there is money to run the trial. Normally NIH funds this work but I would not count on them.Â
Cool science though.

Well, that’ll get buried. Drug companies make trainloads of money from maintenance drugs for diabetes.

T1D and scientist here! This was a really cool study, and I’m glad it’s getting recognition. It’s not likely a realistic “cure” for everyone with diabetes, but it’s very impressive for how it’s advancing our understanding of autoimmunity. You can read my more in depth analysis of it on my substack if you want!
I’ll believe it when I see it. We’ve been 5 years from a cure since for about 15 years now.

Hopefully this is the same cure China has been rolling out. There is a specific variable that meant one person wasn’t cured, but the rest of the patients have been clear for over a year now. Can’t wait for t1 to be a thing of the past like measles, polio, and mumps! Oh, wait…

When my daughter turns 26 (diagnosed at 11 and now 21), I won’t be able to keep her on my plan and I already have gut wrenching anxiety about it. Can send billions of dollars in ordnance half way around the world but God forbid we provide universal healthcare.

How do you find mice with type 1 diabetes? No, i didn’t read the article.

It will take many more years of research to determine how to safely and effectively monetize this revolutionary drug so it can help wealthy people in need of greater profits.
Oh, and maybe it’ll help the few patients who are lucky enough to be able to afford it .
