I guess the main problem is that there is not just oone sign language all around the world, but there seem to be several different varieties? For example, I’ve seen sign language where people use the mouth for mimic gestures, while another version was rather hands only.

    2. It would be so helpful for talking in loud places or through windows without shouting

I have NEVER had to use sign language anywhere, so I don’t understand why I should know it

No. I already know a bunch of stuff that people “claim” should be for everyone but does fuck all for me. Just so later in life when it’s time to get a good job they’ll say you didn’t work hard enough and never that years of your life was wasted in school learning shit that doesn’t help you land a job.

    5. Some introduction to it would be nice but full on might be just not worth the school time

I wanted to learn it, until I discovered that it’s actually not international and you should learn it for every language you want to speak. I speak 5 languages. I decided I didn’t want to also learn 5 different sign languages. Maybe just the english one could be interesting (is there a difference between UK and USA though?).

At the same time though…. name the last time you met and have a conversation with a mute person out in the wild

no family members or close friends

just a random pokemon encounter in a patch of grass

legitimately, when would this be applicable.

I had a class that taught sign language when I was in middle school because we had many disabeled classmates. I’m in college now and I unfortunately forgot everything

    9. So we should use the very limited time we already have to try cram in the fundamentals of what children need to survive in life, for a virtually useless skill that almost no one in there entire life will ever need?

Sure and what part of the curriculum do you suggest we cut to fit this in?
